A reproduction copy of Governor Dunmore's Proclamation sits on a table in the Peyton Randolph Kitchen. In November 1775 Virginia's royal governor, John Murray, 4th earl of Dunmore proclaimed Virginia to be in rebellion and placed the population under martial law. He also offered freedom to enslaved men and bonded servants who fought for the King.
